According to Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz “On March 20, 2023 a parent of the juvenile victim contacted the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office Juvenile Division in regards to her daughter being sexually abused by a registered sex offender in St. Landry Parish.”
Reports indicate that the sexual misconduct was reported by the juvenile to the parent, who then contacted detectives with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. Voice recordings, text messages, social media messages and a screenshot of adult pornography was sent by the sex offender to the juvenile. The juvenile also stated that the first occurrence of the sexual abuse began at the age of 9.
When Melvin Lewis was interviewed by detectives, he denied having any form of sexual contact with the victim, as well as sending her sexually suggestive messages and recordings through social media and text.
On April 27, 2023, Melvin Emile Lewis, II was transported to the St. Landry Parish Jail and charged with 4 counts of third degree rape, 3 counts of sexual battery, 2 counts of oral sexual battery and 4 counts of indecent behavior with juveniles.
