SLP Sheriff’s Dept. Missing Person Report

Press Release: February 11, 2026 Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz reports, “On February 9, 2026, the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Officewas notified of a missing person possibly in the Washington area. This report was received bythe Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, who confirmed that the missing person, Jason Paul Faul ofCarencro, LA was reported missing in the early morning hours of February 9 th . A 2025Chevrolet pickup registered to Jason Faul was detected by license plate readers while travellingnorth bound on I-49 at mile marker 20. By utilizing the vehicle’s OnStar system, LafayetteParish Sheriff’s officials were able to determine that the vehicle arrived at a campground inWashington at about 3:30 am. St. Landry Patrol Deputies checked the area and found thevehicle, unoccupied, but unlocked with a cell phone in the cab. Selling A Tax Proposal BOBBY ARDOIN St. Landry Now.com Editor St. Landry Parish School Superintendent Milton Batiste III became a salesman Tuesday night, as he asked voters to support a proposed parishwide millage increase that will be placed before voters on May 16. Batiste, who appeared before the February Opelousas Board of Aldermen meeting, said only four statewide school districts have dedicated millage raters lower than St. Landry, which has operated schools with the same amount of property tax funding for 40 years. “Everthing that it takes for us to operate today costs more than it did in 1986. School buses that cost $26,000 each back then cost $125,000 now. We aren’t asking for sympathy. We’re just putting the facts before you,” said Batiste, who previously represented District A as an alderman. Groundbreaking For Center BOBBY ARDOIN St. Landry Now.com Editor Bulldozers and excavators briefly stopped their work on Monday as state and local officials gathered in South City Park for a ceremonial groundbreaking that saluted the construction of a $4.6 million Opelousas Community Center. Debris and dirt stood in the background at the previous site for a 96 year-old swimming pool and bath house complex, whose demolition was begun and completed in January. A completion date for the Community Center has not been projected. However the building located on city property is intended to complement the nearby $8 million Donald Gardner Stadium facility that was completed in October. Funding for the Community Center was obtained by State Representative Dustin Miller with funding originally earmarked for statewide broadband projects.
