Noon Rotarians Move Into New Year BOBBY ARDOIN St. Landry Now.com Editor Opelousas Noon Rotary Club members celebrated the installation of new officers Tuesday night  during a ceremony and banquet held inside the Spotted Horse restaurant at Evangeline Downs. American Bank & Trust Company officer Andy Chautin was sworn-in as club president, while Lisa Marks, an officer with St. Landry Bank & Trust Company is the 2026-27 club vice-president. Candance Papillion-Hayes, a Catalyst Bank officer, stepped down after serving for two years as club president. The event also featured the installation of other annual club officers, new members and the selection of Sonny Stephen as the Rotary Club member of The Year. Stephen made significant club contributions again in 2026 for providing technical and donation assistance with the annual Rotary Auction fund raiser in September, modifying a utility trailer for Rotary Club transport purposes and making weekly gifts for guest speakers. Nightclub Shooting Investigation Continues BOBBY ARDOIN St. Landry Now.com Editor Opelousas police are continuing to investigate a nightclub shooting that resulted in multiple injuries and involved the arrests of two Breaux Bridge men early Monday morning. A confrontation between two groups involving a female apparently led to shots being fired outside Club Heels on East Vine and Academy streets, Opelousas police chief Graig LeBlanc said on Tuesday. That initial dispute, which began after 2 am, allegedly continued escalating and resulted in the arrests of Dwayne Carmouche, 26 and Nelson Landry Jr. 44, who were booked into the St. Landry Parish, police reports indicate. Carmouche is charged according to police reports, with attempted second degree murder, aggravated assault with a fire arm, felon in possession of a firearm, obstruction of justice and battery. It was organized to assist those affected by recent flood waters The spirit of community shone ever so bright as St. Landry Parish President Jessie Bellard and Big Cane Baptists Church joined hands to offer flood relief assistance remindng residence that help was only a call away. Among the stories that touched the deepest was that of Beatrice Stelly an 87 year old resident of Snow Road in Palmetto. She melted into tears of relief as she stepped into her home for the first time since the water rose. Thanks to the quick thinking of resident Lavonya Malveaux. The “Billy Cannon: “They Called Him Legend” audio and visual presentation that arrived at the Hall of Fame Museum in Natchitoches on May 28, doesn’t try to hide the athletic ability, awards and legal problems for Cannon, who died in his sleep in 2018 when he was 80.
