The Louisiana Yambilee Festival was a great event in Opelousas each October, beginning on October 9th and 10th in 1946. One of the premiere agriculture festivals in Louisiana, the Yambilee was celebrated in Opelousas until 2012. A highlight of the festival was the Grand Yam Parade that rolled through town each year. Today’s Photo from the Past gives us a view of one of those early Yambilee Parades, probably in the later part of the 1940s, as it rolled down Court Street. We do know this is not from the first Yambilee since it poured down rain for the 1946 parade.
