16 JANUARY 2023 (Opelousas, LOUISIANA) – Opelousas Police are currently on the scene of a
shooting that occurred in the 200 Block of Elementary Ln. just after 7:00 P.M. One adult female
victim appeared to have received multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a
local hospital in critical condition.
The initial investigation determined the victim was sitting in a parked vehicle in the 200 blk. of
Elementary Ln. when unknown suspect(s) fired multiple rounds into the vehicle. Investigators
are checking the area for any surveillance footage in the area. The investigation is active and
more details will be released as they become available.
UPDATE
27 JANUARY 2023 (Opelousas, LOUISIANA) – At about 12:30 P.M. today (January 27, 2023) the victim of the January 16, 2023 passed away from injuries sustained in the shooting. Our thoughts and
prayers go out to the family of Ms. Kiare Vallian who was 29 years old.
The case is now classified as a homicide. Investigators have been actively pursuing several
leads in the case. We ask that anyone with information related to this homicide to contact the
Opelousas Police Department through our contacts methods below.
The Opelousas Police Department will use all available resources to bring those responsible
for this crime to justice.
