Update:
The person who was struck by gun fire in  the area of South St. & Cane St. has been identified as 30 year old Kennie “Michigan” Belvin of Opelousas. Officers have confirmed that Belvin exchanged gun fire with another adult male perpetrator. Investigators are confident that all parties involved have been identified. The identity of the other person involved in this shooting will be released after a warrant has been signed for his arrest. Kennie Belvin will be arrested once medically cleared to be incarcerated. The motive behind the exchange of gun fire is still being investigated.

The Opelousas Police Department is proactively doing everything possible to deter these random acts of gun violence. The department implores all the concerned citizens of Opelousas to pass on any information related to any crime, especially those involving gun violence and the illegal use or possession of firearms.
