It has recently come to the attention of our department that there are individuals that choose to send false and misleading information to members of the media. Our department intends to share all information that is not sensitive or lawfully protected from public release. The department also protects information related to ongoing investigations.
As of January 2023, the department releases daily call activity to make the public fully aware of department activities. All custody arrests made by the Opelousas Police Department are made public through the release of the daily arrest logs released by the St. Landry Sheriff’s Department.
We would like our media partners to be aware that this practice by certain individuals, so misleading and false information does not interfere with the release of information that is intended to inform and update the public. Through our continued partnerships with our media partners the Opelousas Police Department is committed to keeping the community safe and informed.
