According to Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz, “On March 6, 2023 the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office Elderly Affairs section received a complaint from the Louisiana Department of Health Adult Protective Services regarding a possible physical abuse case. The victim is a 45-year-old infirmed female.”
Upon further investigation, it was learned that the caregiver, Charnette Latrell Guillory, was contracted through an agency based in Melville and was the caregiver for a resident in a group home in Opelousas. The group manager stated that the victim reported to her that Charnette Guillory punched the victim in the stomach at the end of January 2023. The group manager requested that Charnette Guillory be removed from the home as a caregiver.
Upon speaking with the victim, it was learned that Charnette Guillory would constantly yell at the victim and state that nobody wanted her. The victim also stated that she was punched in the stomach while she was being bathed.
When the other residents in the group home were questioned, they stated that Charnette Guillory would yell, curse and belittle the victim daily. One resident stated that Charnette Guillory and the victim would be in the bathroom with the door closed and the victim could be heard crying. Another resident stated that she witnessed Charnette Guillory hit the victim in the stomach and Charnette Guillory has treated the victim very cruelly.
On March 8, 2023, Charnette Latrell Guillory was transported to the St. Landry Parish Jail and charged with Cruelty to Persons with Infirmities.
