Opelousas Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in the 800 block of E. Jefferson St. just after 7:00 P.M. The initial investigation indicated that (2) adult males that had a mutual female acquaintance became involved in a heated argument. One of the male subjects went to retrieve a handgun returned and began firing several rounds striking the male victim and also struck a female that was in the area. The male victim and female victim were both transported to a local hospital by private vehicle. The male victim suffered from serious to critical injures. The female had a none life threating injury to the lower leg area. The suspected shooter 20 year old Isiah Pickney of Opelousas was taken into custody when initial responding officers arrived on scene. Pickney will be booked into the St. Landry Parish jail on the following charges.

  1. Attempted Second Degree Murder (2 Counts)
  2. Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property (2 Counts)
  3. Illegal Possession of a stolen firearm
  4. Illegal use of a dangerous weapon or instrumentalities

Opelousas police have investigated (2) shootings over the past three days which marked the 47 and 48 shooting so far this year. In comparison the department investigated 105 shooting incidents during the same time period last year. Officers are aggressively working these cases to make sure those responsible are brought to justice. The departments primary goal is that of violent crime reduction.
