Meet Anne Bulliard Crownover, a textile and glass artist, who is exhibits through October works of rope that challenge traditional utilitarian uses such as bowls and bags. Her opening reception is 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 13.
“As a self-taught crafts person, I’ve always loved experimenting with different mediums,” Crownover states. “As a child, I was fortunate to have the freedom to create and was encouraged to do so. At the age of four, I hand-sewed my doll’s clothing and learned to crochet.”
Crownover’s first foray out of her usual fiber medium was with stained glass, which she used to design and create works of mosaics. during this time she studied with Laurel True, Susan Crozensi and others. “Stained glass mosaics was my craft for several years while working and caring for my family. More recently, I felt I needed to get back to my fiber crafting and that brought me back to my sewing machine and rope. It married two mediums and a renewed love for fiber for me was reborn.”
Crownover’s rope work continues evolve as she incorporates wood, stone and bead as added interests into her designs. Aug. 6. To see images of Crownover’s work visit this Lookbook link.
