St. Landry Parish STICKER SHOCK CAMPAIGN OPELOUSAS— The STL PROUD Coalition, the St. Landry Parish Children and Youth Services (CYS) Planning Board and Acadiana Area Human Services District will hold a STICKER SHOCK CAMPAIGN at Tobacco Plus Store, 210 E. Vine Street, Opelousas on Saturday, June 25 at 11:00 am. The STICKER SHOCK CAMPAIGN is a youth-driven (with adult supervision) project that seeks to inform, educate and remind the community of the implications of selling and providing alcohol to underage youth. Underage prevention messages are printed onto stickers and placed on products in liquor and/or convenience stores. The messaging is geared towards adults to stop them from purchasing alcohol for minors. In order to make the public aware of the dangers and addictiveness of alcohol, youth go into stores and apply a variety of warning stickers on six packs and cases of beer that carry prevention messages about alcohol. The STICKER SHOCK CAMPAIGN is supported by Chief Martin McClendon and the Opelousas Police Department. St. Landry Parish has been selected by the Louisiana Partnerships for Success 2 as one of 10 high need parishes in the state to address the priority of underage drinking. The St. Landry Parish Children & Youth Planning Board has branded itself as the STL PROUD Coalition to bring a positive presence in addressing the ills of underage drinking. Other strategic initiatives of the Coalition include Social Media Campaigns, the BLAST Event for all 7th graders in St. Landry Parish, Alcohol Restrictions at Community Events, Targeted Law Enforcement of Hotspot Areas and Evidence-based Curriculum presented to youth. With funding from the Louisiana Department of Health’s Office of Behavioral Health, the CYS Planning Board is collaborating with the Acadiana Area Human Services District through the Louisiana Partnerships for Success grant to implement the St. Landry (STL) PROUD Coalition which addresses underage drinking.
